This tour is based at a stunning forest retreat with Beaulieu village on the doorstep which provides the perfect base for a true New Forest experience. Our itinerary includes a visit to Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway, created by the famous Rothschild family and home to a host of exotic plants which benefit from the unique micro-climate. We have an
informative talk included on the history of the gardens and the family that inspired their creation, combined with a journey on the steam railway that travels around the gardens. We also travel to Mottisfont, a romantic house and gallery set in beautiful riverside gardens with a medieval priory at it’s heart. The stunning rose garden is a feast for the senses with a world famous collection of old fashioned roses. Combined with a visit to the medieval city of Salisbury, allowing time to explore the city’s historic streets and alleyways, half timbered buildings and magnificent cathedral, which boasts the tallest spire in the UK. Rounding this tour off with a visit to Buckler’s Hard, where we step back in time to the 18th century with a guided tour of this historic naval shipbuilding centre, famous for having built warships for Nelson’s navy,
combined with a cruise on the beautiful Beaulieu River, as we learn the history and wildlife found on it’s picturesque banks, also calling a the Georgian market town of Lymington, which has strong connections to the sea and a rich maritime history to discover.
